Frequently Asked Questions.

  • What can I expect at my free trial class?
You will be joining a class with students at various stages in their jiu jitsu journeys. The instructor will welcome you onto the mat, and you will then carry out a warm up with our team. Normally a couple of different techniques will be demonstrated to the class, and you will then have an opportunity to drill these techniques with a partner. At the end of the class, the students will roll with one another, and you can either have a go, or sit it out and watch.
  • What should I wear?
An old t-shirt or rash guard, teamed up with pants (no pockets or zips), or even compression tights. Footwear should be thongs, slides or crocs.
  • What if I don’t know what to do?
A perfectly common question! We don’t expect you to know… which is why you have signed up to learn more! You will be learning more and more as you go, and no one will judge you on your inexperience. Kudos to you for stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new!
  • Am I too old to do jiu jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for everyone, of all ages. But if you are doubtful, ask yourself… how’s your health? How’s your general fitness? We guess you really must try it out and see for yourself!
  • What if I’m a female and don’t feel comfortable training with males?
We pride ourselves on our amazing academy culture and you will find that within our unisex classes is a super respectful learning environment. Even so, if it doesn’t really appeal to you, we got you boo. We offer Women’s Only classes for your comfort.
  • Is Jiu Jitsu like Karate?
    No. Just no.
